Re: Snare Wire

I have a steel snare. I am looking for a softer sound(that is, not sharp...), and my snare sounds like crap anyway, so I may as well get what I want, and improve the sound. If it's unclear what kind of sound I want, if you are familiar with The Tragically Hip's album "Phantom Power", I want a sound sort of like in that album(Chagrin Falls is a good example). I know I can't get exactly the same, so don't bother saying it. I just want a nice sound like that, which is what I define as "soft".

Re: Snare Wire

OK, seriously now Im thinking of using a Pure sound for my 14 X 5.5 Buy I can't decide what to use on my 14 X 10 snare, FC says the no pitch is made for the deeper snares, but I like some pop in mine generally around 12- 18 wires max.

What snare wires should I get???

Re: Snare Wire

I'd say get the puresound 16 wire blasters. I have them and I get a nice pop on my snare.

Talking Re: Snare Wire

i love the way my snare sounds with the stock wires!!?? they were originally a 16 strand but i cut from the center of the clip down to a 10 strand. 16 is just too many for my taste. i cut them to look like the puresound eq wires and that pattern works beautifully if you have snare buzz problems. i didn't but anything above 10 or 12 strands is too many for me.

oh btw my snare is a steel shell. nothing special here.

Re: Snare Wire

Hey I want some snare help. If I were to get a 20 or 30 snare strand, would the sound be phatter than if I were to get a 10 snare strand? I don't really want a high sound, more of a low, subtle sound. What I mean through the ambiguity is: a sound that is sort of like when you turn the snares off and hit the drum, but with a little but of snare sound mixed in. If ANYONE actually understands what I just said, could you please halp?

This should basically explain it:

Less snares the more tone, less buzz... And the tighter your snares are the more likely you will get pop... That help any?
