Help selecting drum heads

I'm just now getting back into drumming and picked up a nice set of Premiers.

There are so many choices for drum heads out there I'm not sure on what to choose.

I like deep warm sounding drums w/ very little over ring.

I've been told Weatherking Coated Powerstrokes for the toms and a GMAD for the 22" kick.

Would the snare take the same head as the toms or are there special heads for snares?
I have a 5 piece set and would like to know what heads would best reflect my likes. I play lite rock, and country.

Any help would be great

Re: Help selecting drum heads

I agree!!! EVANS EC2's are amazing heads for any genre. Since you play softer I would say get the coated EC2's for a mellower sound. For your snare I would say an Evans genera or genera dry if you want less overtones. As for your bass drum the GMAD sounds like a good choice but if you want an even deeper sound go for the EMAD 2. It's pretty much the same thing as the GMAD but with 2-plys. Also don't forget about a bass drum patch to protect the head from breaking

My two cents FWIW Evans G2's coated for the toms. G1 uncoated for the rezo's. Aquarian super kick II for your bass drum and ATTACK brand Jeff ocheltree or Terry Bozzio signature heads for your snare. You can't go wrong with that set up. But whatever you get any overtone can be controlled by 2 resonance control products Noble & Cooley's Zerorings or Moongel cures any unwanted ringing in a heartbeat. Good Luck T

Re: Help selecting drum heads

Check out either Evans G2 coated or Remo coated emperors for your tom batters and Evans G1 clear or Remo ambassador clear for tom resonant. The batter and resonant head from each company has pretty much the same specs, I find Evans heads are more consistent from each other compared to Remo. As far as snare goes, again check out Evans power center reverse dot or Remo controlled sound reverse dot for snare batter and Evans hazy 300 or Remo hazy ambassador for snare side. Hope this helps. Good luck!
