Bass drum printing

Im after getting a print on the bass drum head, how much is normal price?
Is there any sneaky ways to get it done, like getting a massive sticker in stead of doing properly?
I will be getting it done properly just you know, would like quick and easy until i can sneak x-amounts of £s away from the wife! lol

Re: Bass drum printing

Woodshed Percussion in Ohio does custom head art. I recently had a full color print done for my kick. The cost for lay out set up, new head, printing and shipping was 180.00. You would retain all rights to the design. You can submit your own design or they can do design work for you. Check out the web site at woodshedpercussion.com, the quality is first rate and they are currently doing work for major acts. Turn around time is fairly fast once you agree on a design.

Look up Inked by Evans, you can customize a bass drum head anyway you like. I think it costs around $70 or something.

Re: Bass drum printing

Hey Chris H,

Not wanting to have to change out my fairly new TAMA stock reso head, I looked around to see if there was an 'applique' that could be applied over the head surface. Turns out there are quite a few companies on the net that do this. I can't think of the site I was looking at right now, but my point is it can be done without having to swap the heads. My question is, will it change the tonal or resonant quality of the head by putting something over the outer surface? I never asked this question of the manufacturer I was looking at. Anybody have any experience with these 'press fit appliques'?

Re: Bass drum printing

Thanks Taino,

Do you know if this process reduces the sound quality of the reso head it is applied to?

You can't have your piece of cake and eat it too.

It may affect the res a little but you can re-tune the head a little to your needs.

Hey Taino,

I suspected as much. I have toyed with the idea of getting one of theses appliques. Have you tried them? If so, any advice on which brand to choose?

Re: Bass drum printing

I have never put a decal on my bass heads. I have painted my own band logo on the head.

I've used Polyethylene paint and only Black. I needed to thin it out but not to the point that the thinner would eat through the bass head.

Re: Bass drum printing

You are a better man than I TJ. I don't think I would have the guts to do that to my head. FYI, the decals I have seen were the type that would stick using some sort of friction only. Kinda like the little decals you can press on to your windows at Christmas time, and just peel them off after. Seemed like a good idea to me until I started thinking about the possible reduction in the resonant quality of the head.
