Snare Drum Tuning

Hi all, this is my first post, lol. Anyway, I have a Coda Drums Generation Alpha drum set and I'm wondering how to tune the bottom head on the snare drum, how could I do so? any help would be appreciated.

Alot of how you tune your snare has to do with the type of music you are playing and the sound you want. What exactly are you looking for?

I'm pretty much looking for a deep loud sound like an Evans snare drum

Re: Snare Drum Tuning

I would suggest a Drum Dial. It's well worth the investment. Start with the recommended tension settings. It'll get ya in the ball park and you can tune it to the sound you like from there. I started on a set that had Pre Tuned Heads and I just bought a new kit after not really playing or having one for 20yrs. So I'm new to tuning my drums and I have to say. I would have been lost without the Drum Dial. Plus it's a Huge time saver! Drum on Brother!

A deeper sound from a snare comes from a 6.5" x 14" or bigger shell size and not the head tuning. What size is your snare and what is the shell made of?

The snare is 5.5 x 14", and the shell is made of steel (info from the Coda Drums website)

Re: Snare Drum Tuning

Der is right. You need a deeper snare for a deeper sound. I have a 14" x 5.5" snare as well and Love the nice crisp pop it has. Mine is made of wood though, not metal. Does a metal shell snare tend to have a nice snap crackle n pop to it, or does it give it a lot of over tone and sound hollow?

I have a 6.5" by 14" steel snare and it has a nice deep crack to it. I keep the batter head really tight and the bottom head at about a medium tension. I also keep the snares at a medium-tight setting. My heads are Evans HD Dry (Batter) and Evans Hazy 300 (Reso). For snares I use puresound blasters
