New heads

I have a Tama SCP all birch kit.I want to re-skin the whole kit.I've been useing Remo's for as long as I can remember but now I was thinking about Evans. I need heads that are gonna cut unmiced. I play prog?classic rock I currently have clear emporers on toms, clear ps3 on kick, coated ambassador on the snare. What are your opions of Evans ya's or na's. If ya's what models should I try. Thanks for the input.

Re: New heads

Evans are good, I would recomend G2-batter, G1-resso on the toms, power dot on the snare, and Emad1 on the bass. I would also recomend the kickport, makes your bass heard. A very proven combo that has worked for many people, including me.

That said I swiched to Remo from evans about a year ago. I used the aformentioned combo but now I use Pinstripes and Ambassadors on the toms, Vintage A on the snare and Powersonic on the bass. (Yes the kickport too)

Re: New heads

Wanted to try something different. Ended up sticking with it.

I was actually in Guitar Center and played a PDP platinum (All maple) kit with pinstripes and loved it. You can tune a pinstripe DEEP without it sounding funky.

The vintage A was thanks to the advice frum the guy begind the counter. I love it.

The kickport was being pushed bu Don Bennets drum studio and utilizes subwoofer tech to make your kick drum sound like a bass cannon. It works. I highly reccomend them.

As for the powersonic? I have never heard one before and thought it might be a fun $45 experiment. Worked out nicely.

Re: New heads

What he said is the equivalent in Remo's.

I also played remos forever (they were the only choice when I started playing). But I can switch back and forth to Evans or Remo - they're pretty comparable. And if you're gonna spend the money, you might as well play what you like.

I, however, like how the white coating on the G1's and G2's last longer, and manage to stay white longer. When I use Remo's, the spots where I hit will start to blacken.

The Remo Powerstroke 3 is my favorite bass drum head, but the Evans EQ3 (or 4?) the one with the ring built into the edge - I think the EQ4 has an additional ring you can take out - is on my bass drum right now. I think quality control for both companies is the same.
