The Good Old Days

As to who I was impressed by, while in my drumming infancy, was anyone who could do something I did not yet know how to do. In my day.....I am still having days....I did not have the internet. I had audio tracks on vinyl , and perhaps some limited amount of video, such as the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, where I could watch at least in some part, to what Ringo Starr was doing. Later were the drummers from the Who, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Blue Cheer ,the Iron Butterfly (whose solo in In a Gadda Da Vida), still remains a mystery given the tape tech of the day. I know how they did it, I just don't know HOW, they did it kind of thing.
Ginger Baker's Toad was amazing to me at the time.....even now when I listen to it, I have to wonder, how did he come up with some of that stuff............nuff.

welshgit, orionsbelt77, thanks for the memories.

Been into music of all sorts. As a child since The Mickey Mouse Club, The Hardy Boys, Officer Joe Bolton & not to forget Farmer Jones.

I remember listening to Do-Wop out of my window.

Your posts have brought me back many memories, thanks.

Re: Anyone else self-taught?

You are absolutely right oriensbelt77, CDs and DVDs actually have a pretty short life compared to vinyl even if both are well cared for. Magnetic tape has a long life as long as the temperature and humidity it is stored in is controlled well.

I would hate to see any collection of music just tossed in a dumpster, but I am sure it happens everyday. Sad to even think about.

Re: The Good Old Days

I moved these posts to the "Off Topic" section of the forum. We got a little off track on that one.

The other "Thread" was labeled "Anyone Else Self Taught".
