Talking Having a Big Day Out!

Hey everyone,

Two days to go to the biggest musical day in my diary. The Big Day Out!

For those who don't know, this is one of the few touring festivals we get down under. It's also the one of the few chances we get all year to see some international bands.

This year the lineup includes Tool, Muse, Tool, The Voilent Femmes, Tool, Trivium, Tool, The Vines, Tool, My Chemical Romance, Tool, Peaches, The streets, Tool, Jet, did I mention Tool with my drumming idol Danny Carey are going to be performing.

Any way, gonna get myself covered head to toe in sunscreen, drink a gallon water and go apes*@t!!

As Lee Ranaldo said in "91 the year punk broke"...

"The festival scene is beautiful man!"

I'm sure you'll have a great time. Isn't TOOL on that tour? I hear they've got a great drummer.

Enjoy yourself!!

Well it's the morning after and I'm feeling sore as. Neck's buggered, throat's stuffed rock fullfilment quenched, for now.

First band of the day was that aussie group with the "free hugs" video. They're called the Sick Puppies and were pretty cool live I must say. Went and grabbed some lunch and water and headed back to see The Butterfly Effect, another group of aussie hard rockers. They went off like a frog in sock! Headed over to an indoor stage to get some booze and see local lads Birds Of Tokyo, very good indeed. Stumbled outside and caught a blues band from own town of Rockingham. There harmonica player was crazy good and will be attempting the guiness records fastest player later this year. Back to the last stage and I saw the first couple of songs from your boys Trivium. As if they didn't already sound enough like old Metallica, they even played Master Of Puppets!

Caught the tail end of My Chemical Romance. I don't care if it is cool to call them emo and hate 'em, I think they're good. Very polished, technical and just plain rocked! Went and saw a bit of Peaches after that. That chick is out there, I think she was performing with Hole's last drummer. Had a break, ate some dinner, then decided, due to the new restrictions on the "D" barrier at the main stages, I'd better get in there before it's too late, which sucked cause, I had to miss a bunch of stuff I really wanted to see!

Watched The Killers, they were pretty cool. Sat down while Jet were on, boring, although, I was impressed how much their drummer could get away with only hi-hats and a ride. Then came Muse. These boys know how to rock! Even their new stuff sounded good on stage, but the clincher was they ended with Stockholm Syndrome. There's a reason that song was voted best guitar track of 2003 on triple J, that alone was worth the admission price. So you can imagine my further adulation when it was directly followed up with....

TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only regrets were they didn't play The Pot, Lost Keys Blame Hoffman (before Rossetta Stoned) and for another Freaking Five Hours!!!!!

That aside, it was the exact sort of musical mastery I've grown to love from those boys and I was more than satisfied by the end of their show. Especially when Maynard announced they'd be back in November. I'm gonna hold him to that.

For those who care, their set was, Stinkfist, 46&2, Schism, Jambi, Swamp Song, Rossetta Stoned, Lateralus, Vicarious and AEnima.

Well that's my round up of the day, can't wait 'til next year!
