I go to a lot of local shows so I forget the last one I went to, the only big concert I have ever been to was warp tour and that was really big. We went to the chicago show and stayed at my cousins house with my brother and 3 of our friends, the night before warp we didn't sleep and we basicly died at warp. I have seen Kenny Aronoff, Peter Erskin, Simon Phillips, Russ Miller, and I think one more but I don't remember. We have a Wood Wind and Brasswind store about 20 minutes away and they usually have a clinic about every 3 to 4 monthes.

I went to see Herbie Hancock at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival this friday - man, he was awesome!

I didn't know the drummer, though, but he was pretty good. Used a lot of cool percussion.

Earlier I've seen Oasis, Elton John, Paul McCartney, System of a Down and Metallica...

Hey skinslapper,
Thats a good list of a lot of well-known bands. I curious about one thing - is the music scene very similar over in Australia to that of the US? I would assume that a lot of the US bands like System of a Down, Korn, Mudvayne, and Rage Against the Machine would tour around the world a lot but are they as popular in Australia? Or are there other more popular bands that are exclusive to Australia? I would love to know. Thanks.

Thanks for the inquiry Gyu Smiley.

Firstly, Australians are mad for good, hard rock. Because of our isolation (especially in Perth) we have a very strong local music scene. It's not so popular, commercial radio is still playing Cold Chisel and INXS like they're the next big thing, but we've got a national radio station here called triple J that is dedicated to unearthing new and local talent. They discovered Silverchair, Wolfmother, Killing heidi, Grinspoon, The Living End, Youth Group and tons of other acts who are doing well (at least over here).

Despite my extensive live portfolio, you must understand, this is over a 10 year period. If I were living in England I'd have probably seen all those acts in 1 month.

Triple J does a good job keeping us current with what's happening in the rest of the world. They were the only station playing Smells Like Teen Spirit when it first came out. Commercial radio has only just started playing that now. If you go to their website you can listen to them online. I'd strongly recomend it if you want to check out what we're listening to down under.

As I previously stated, check out Parkway Drive or Shihad if you want to hear some great hard rock from this corner of the world. Shihad are actually from New Zealand, but we claim everything good from there anyway, like Russel Crowe, until he became an embarrassment, then we gave him back.
