Last concert you've been to...

Well it's summer and I wanted to go to some concerts. Whenever I go, I just stare at the drummer the whole time and just observe what he's doing. I think it's a great learning tool, just to to pick up some licks and gain some musical application and showmanship skills.

So yeah, what was the last concert you've been to and what concert would you go to next?

It's been a long time since I've been to one. I think the last one I've been to was a David Crowder Band concert (Christian). For Christian music, the drummer was actually pretty good - no huge dramatic drum solos or crazy fills, but he was solid, entertaining, and LOUD.

What was the last concert you've been to and what was the drummer like?

Hmmm... All the concerts I go to are local shows. I saw Steve Gadd in clinic maybe 2 weeks ago, does that count? And of course Gadd was AWESOME!

How do you have access to all these clinics? Where do you find out about them?

I have this shop thats 2-hours from me thats one of the "5-star drum shops" and they always post them on their site. They always get all the big name drummers to stop. They've had Steve Gadd, Terry Bozzio, Marco Minnemann, Chad wackerman, Billy Ward... Its an excellent drum shop.

Oh okay cool. I think I ordered from one of the 5 star drum shops a couple times. I think it was Midwest Percussion. Pretty good prices, but I didn't know they attracted so many big names.

Well the last concert I went to was Hot Chip (great band), but no drummer as it's 5 guys with Synths.

So.... I've mentioned Charles Hayward already (in the favourite drummers thread).

I guess I should mention The Magic Band (as in Captain Beefheart and the....), seen them 3 times in the UK now and have been utterly blown away each time, the music's great for a start - I'm a huge fan of Beefheart. The drumming was awesome - Drumbo (John French) behind the kit for a few songs doing his crazy offbeat hi-hat thing and insane tom work, then Michael Traylor pounding them like a trooper. Some of the beats are so odd - in fact some of the music is, but somehow it all sits together and rocks!

Managed to get a stick from both of them. Ace!

I guess the last band I saw live was several years ago and it was blues travler.
they are a really good band live, they put on a free show for the military over in japan but I guess that was about 6 years ago now.
it was really hard to get to see bands when you live over seas for almost 8 years.

I saw Ben Folds... amazing. It was in this old ballroom with all hardwood floors and 100 foot ceilings. I've seen him once before, but that was right after he broke up with the band a dn just toured with himself and a piano. So, it was nice to get a taste of himwith full band this time.

That's cool man. I go to Northwestern University and Ben Folds came to our school to give a concert outside. I didn't get a chance to see it but I'm sure it was awesome.

Every summer we get the Big Day Out festival tour the great southern land. I never miss it cause you may not get to see anything here for the rest of the year. This year we were treated to mudvayne (awsome drummer), Iggy and the Stooges (easily the loudest band of the day), Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes and a heap of great australasian acts including Shihad. You might know them as Pacifier. Honestly one of the best heavy live acts around.

My favourite gigs have included Rage Against the Machine, Wolfmother (x2), Rancid and System of a Down from Big Day Out shows. And on their own Tool two times (absoloutely amazing), Soundgarden (just before they broke up), Helmet (just before they broke up), Faith No More (am I cursed or something?), Korn, Primus and Muse.
