The oldest company in the world

I just got the word today that Zildjian is the oldest company in the world. Could it be that they have been around the longest?

Re: The oldest company in the world

One of the good things about this forum is that you can always revive a thread. The making of the drums as well as the cymbals is in here some were. Now I'll have to look for them and make them sticky threads.

Information like this should always be on top for all of the new comers as well for the previous ones. For research and such. The drum time line is available so there's got to be one some place for the cymbals as well.

If I don't find it, I'll have to do some more home work on this subject.

Re: The oldest company in the world

i did some research, and heres what i got:

the first cymbal was made in 1618 by an armenian dude named Avedis in Istanbul. he was an alchemist, and he discovered the alloy on accident. it didnt shatter when he hit it in sheet form, and it was musical, so he went into business with it in 1623.
the prince gave him the name Zildjian: zil- cymbal, dji- seller/maker, and ian is just a suffix.
Zildjian arrived in the US in 1929, in massachusetts, and his son Armand established the modern factory.

they are definitely the oldest company then, since 1623.

Yeah Zildjian are the oldest drum company. But I used the almighty power of Google and found that the oldest company in the world is Kongo Gumi. A Japanese construction company formed in 578. Unfortunately it was merged or something with another company in 2007, so Zildjian can still outlive it. Go Zildjian!

"The Oldest Company", my drumming sibling.

Not something like Honor and Sonor merging and keeping the same name.

Not like Ma Bell becoming the largest company in the world and then had to be disassembled because they were too huge, (For those who didn't know Ma Bell, ask your parents)., Ma Bell had to become subsidize into smaller companies.

Money is power in any nation.
Also becoming a threat to the nation.

The bigger the company, the bigger the threat for control. Especially when with Price Competition Marketing Control.

I'm not talking franchising either, like McDonald's (not McDonald - Douglass), KMart, Pathmark and others.
