Re: drummers pain

hey i wouldn't worry about your arms and wrists kinda hurting as long as it feels like muscle pain...depending on how long you've been playing and how long you practice you more than likely are building up muscles you don't tend to use...the old saying "no pain no gain" tends to be true in the drumming world... to an extent. I mean you don't want to over due it and hurt yourself...i say try to practice through the pain... about 10-15 min. from when it starts to hurt...then take a break and practice some more...remember to try and stretch and play loosely(not stiff)...as far as hitting the edge of the toms it may be because of the angle or the height of your toms...try to adjust them...and it really does help to start slow till you get the roll down and gradually speed up...hope that helps!!!

Re: drummers pain

Playing stiff will cause muscle fatigue.

Take it slow and relax.

I agree with Mr. skinbeata7734

Practice at your own pace but relaxed until it becomes second nature.

Besides, drumming should be fun, not painful.

Re: drummers pain

Thanx for helpin me out a bit. yes i do tend 2 relax but it just keeps aching is it because normally everyday i practice for about 2 hours, probably cause i never have a break between. i dont play in a band so i dont over do it. Would you guys be able to send me a picture of how much of an angle the toms should be on. And also i have been trying to make my rolls faster and rudiments a lot faster would u have any pointers.

Re: drummers pain

hey dude as far as an angle should go it really comes down to your comfort feeling...there is no set in stone positioning...some drummers keep them flat while some have them in a 45 degree angle... i think i keep mine somewhere in between...and as far as getting faster it really helps to start slow and build your way up cuz that'll help you from having bad habbits... just practice and do what comes natural i don't think that any drummer is the exact same...be patient it'll come and know you always have more to learn!!!

Re: drummers pain

I've seen some pros play in the relaxed method with the drums straight out flat.

My problem with that is, I've got a busted back and can't get use to playing straight up.

Re: drummers pain

Hey lucius obviously you don't know what the practice pad is for. It's for building your hands and the muscles in your hands up. If you want to build your hands start using the pad and start using RUDIMENTS. I've been playing drums and using a practice pad for over 42 years. You should be practicing and enjoying what your doing, and not have a time limit on what you do.

Re: drummers pain

Hey Mr. Slingerland,

in that Jacob Kaye website you sold me on some time ago, there is a circular way of moving the sticks to help bring up speed on the rudiments.

Do you remember where that page was at?

I think this would also be helpful.
