Happy Columbus Day? We all know how to recite the three ships that where sailed in 1492.
But the reality is that the Europeans knew that we were here already.
Some 90+ years before the so called discovery of my people who greeted the three ships, China had traded the Atlas of the world with the people from the other side of this big pond.
Today I mourn for the 30 million who died over 500 years ago while others celebrate "The Borg". Resistance is still "Futile". We all have been assimilated in one way or another.
These were not casualties of war, it was genocide.
Homeland Security Since 1492.
Happy Columbus Day.

Re: Happy Columbus Day? Hi TainoJim,
My dear drumming sibbling, I hear you!!
It is all too easy to forget about such terrible events, especially as the History Buffs start to glorify " the start of the new world "
In my country of birth, The Netherlands we had a 80 years war, with a Spanish occupation trying to beat us into submission and surrender as to become devout catholics.
We were lucky in that we finally were able to kick them out, and that we had enough people left to to tell the tale.....
Then again we were occupied for 5 years, during WW2, during which my father was suffering in a camp, but fortunately survived, otherwise I would not be able to contribute to this forum. During those 5 years Amsterdam lost hundreds of thousands of its original citizens.
I know this forum is not supposed to be the place for this topic, and I apologize for this, but there is always such a deep uncomfortable silence around this topic, which I do not mind to break for once.
So that we will not forget.!!
Taino, I am with you here man!
Having said all of this, this is a Drum Forum and I am looking forward to your usual witty and helpful contributions
Cheers and Happy Drumming

Re: Happy Columbus Day? i guess i need to brush up on my history, or at least learn that particular part of it. what probably happens is the history books try to prance around the less attractive parts of the United States development.
i have no clue what you mean by "the borg" and 30 million people dying, but then im only a sophomore, so i may not have even had a class covering that yet.
either way, i dont think we should celebrate columbus day. its a day set aside for some idiot who got lost and thought he was in india, and then claimed the "discovery" of america. i know you guys were here first, but now i have to learn all the other stuff.
happy drumming

Re: Happy Columbus Day? "The Borg" is an alien nation from Star Trek the Next Generation which traveled the universe either obliterating or assimilating worlds and poeples into it's own collective. |

Re: Happy Columbus Day? Yeah like Star Trek, but only in the real world.
Text books need to be rewritten so the truth can set the people free in this great nation of ours.
You see all over the media about Mr. "H" killing 6million and even a song by Pink Floyd in reference to that history. How they say they will never forget.
But, if people like me start to rattle too many cages, I won't be here on the forum anymore.
Even though, others can have their national holidays, be it none for us . We are the only minority without a voice to be heard and would be silenced quickly at the squeak of the sound by the Fatherland.
If the "Next Generation isn't told by the elders, it would be all but a loss.
Yes, this is "Off Topic", and that is all remaining to non drumming. Could be a wakeup call to some as others a frown.
To be known as a Tribe to be passed from one "Crowned Nation" to a "Socialistic Nation" and without recognition, is a great crime and still exists, today.
My people were assimilated into the Spaniard ways and now we have to turn to being assimilated the "English" way. With out having a say so about being able to speak our native tong or have a school to provide it for future generations to come. .
We don't need to here "Speak English, This Is America" from people who's great grant parents are illegal aliens to begin with.
Ignorance kills, without the right knowledge through research, you won't find i. At time you just end up with bits and pieces of real history, if your lucky.
But It's All "Off-Topic" my friends.
Mr Butter, Besides watching 500 Nations, read about the priest (Bartolome De Las Casas biography) who sailed on the Santa Maria.
Thanks Harry for understanding. Your a wise man.
Her Der, I didn't know you were a Trekkie? |

Re: Happy Columbus Day? All good drummers are trekkies aren't they? (or did my first drum teacher tell me wrong?)
It is always good to be educated by the past so that we don't make the same mistakes twice, this is good info to know imho. This goes back to my statement in another thread many moons ago (I bet Jim remebers the one) when I said that those who preceed us teach us the way, only I was talking about the progression of drumming. If you really think about it this ideaology applies to just about all things. |

Re: Happy Columbus Day? Butter, I don't remember the title at the moment, it starts with a huge pipe organ on the introduction, but it goes some what like this:
This is by Emerson, Lake and Palmer
"Do you believe, God makes you breath.
Why did you loose, 6 million Jews."
It's called "Infinite Space".
500 Nations, "The True Untold Story of America" hosted by Kevin Kostner is one that came out in 1995. Was 150 dollars for the VHS video but now it can be purchased for 35 in DVD format. Amazon.com: 500 Nations: Alma Martinez, Kevin... |

Re: Happy Columbus Day? Hey Der,
who was your first drum teacher? Was it Spock or Bones?
Ulhura would have been a huge distraction with great communications skills.
Waiting for the new movie to show up on DVD. Not going to pay outrageous price for something that costs less later.
In NYC the average movie goer pays around 40 bucks a head. |

Re: Happy Columbus Day? Harry
another thing lots of people aren't aware of. Spain also had the Philippines under their control for over 400 years.
In the school books here in the United States, we all read about Conquistadors (Conquerors) and it was taught like a part of history to accept as though this was normal.
The Egyptians, Romans, Hitler, Stalin were stopped by others because they wanted world domination.
"News Flash" The U.S.A. has over 700 military bases scattered all over the world.
Now if that ain't world domination, then what is?
I'm sure lots would agree with me when I say that I love my country.
It's the government that sucks, big time.
We are not getting political here on this thread. Only making some comments to keep the others aware of what happened in the past. To prevent it from happening again.
It's not correct when we pay taxes for our children to be educated incorrectly. They are being assimilated as we were until we got old enough to think, ask and speak for ourselves.
When my son was twelve, he had to do a class report for homework on Christopher. The only difference was that I gave him the straight and narrow to get it right. This information blew the teacher away.
