Hi guys (and girls),
So, I made a post a little while back about how I am getting back into drumming after a pretty extensive off period. I've been practicing every other day and working on my basics. Trying not to play at the level I once was just yet.
So, I figured, "hey, I learn quicker when I play with others and its more fun too." plus my true dream in life is to become a working musician.
I checked my local craigslist and didn't find much, so I typed into LA area since I'm only an hour away. I wrote 3 of the ones I liked the most and told them what level I am at now, being completely upfront, and my desire to improve and be awesome, etc.
Well, all 3 wrote back requesting auditions. :gulp:
I'm not one to pass opportunities. These are all established (paid gig) bands at varied levels of 'noteriety'. I did a meet and greet last night with one and am going back down to practice with them. Thing is, they have a show Thursday...yes, THIS Thursday...in Hollywood...at a reasonably well known establishment....
I've done things on the fly before but damn, not after 6 years of not playing. I really don't want to screw this up, for me and especially for them.
They really like me and want me to be a part of the band. I just can't bomb too hard and I should be ok. It's just that I hate not being able to play at the best I know I'm capable so it feels like I am shortchanging people a little.
Just needed to rant. I'm sure I'll do fine....
