Bo Eder solo on Tama Starclassic Bubinga Elites!

Hey all,

So I haven't been here in a while as I was getting my new kit gig ready. It's ready now.
Here's a video of what it sounds like, and this video accomplishes two things: somebody wanted to see my best Buddy Rich rendition (which I don't even come close to, but that doesn't matter) and it shows off my new tools.

I'm totally happy with these. 18x20 bass drum, 6.5x10, 7x12 and 15x16 toms, a 1982 6.5x14 Tama Mastercraft steel snare that sounds incredible. I only use two cymbals now, an 18" A thin crash, and a 20" K Custom Dark Ride, plus some 14" New Beats. It fits me perfectly and is a joy to play!

Let me know what you think, criticism and comments welcomed - and I can handle it.

Thanks!

Not bad for a junior drummer. I'd like to here some more combination's with 5th and 3rd.

Other wise really nice work.

Just ribbing you about the Junior part.

What are combinations of 5th and 3rd? Did I miss something in college?

Nah, this is something we learned from the school of hard knocks. Strictly has to do with 3 count and 5 count drumming. The origin of jazz drumming.

That's weird, I've never heard that at all. Maybe I've never heard it because I get fired to quick!

Enlighten us sometime. For a music normally in a 4-feel, or a cool 2-beat feel, the mere mention of 3 and 5 seems a little contradictory unless we're discussing polyrhythmic playing - and you know how much polyrhythmic playing we get to hear on MTV nowadays...

Those rolls are as smooth as they come, Bo! Nice.

Thanks DTX, I appreciate you giving it a listen. Too bad no one actually requests that I play like that all the time.

To even get more out of the Buddy vibe, today, I cut a small port in my front bass drum head for a mic. A part of me died inside....

Do you remember this in college?

Oh, that's what you're talking about!

The way you phrased your sentence I thought you meant odd-note groupings over normal groupings, like playing 5 quarter notes over the space of 3, or 3 over the space of 2, or if you want to get even weirder, 13 over 7.

The shuffle video is good for people to get the hang of that feel although I would probably recommend they listen to alot of Bernard Purdie or any of the blues greats. No point trying to play something you're not familiar with - I'm more into the intent of the content, I suppose. Same with the stuff in 5, you understand it alot quicker when there's a reason to be doing it. Thanks though!
