If you have or can get Neil Peart's "Anatomy of a Drum Solo" DVD, Disc 2 has a folder that is called "Transcription". Within this folder, there is a pdf file called "Der Trommler". It appears to have the entire drum solo (from the R30 DVD) transcribed. Of course, you'll need a computer with a DVD player to even access this file, and you'll also need to be able to read sheet music. I'm not
so good at reading sheet music, but I'm guessing the double hand crossover part of the solo is
somewhere around page 8, 9 or 10. I'm not totally certain, but that's my guess. I had this folder
open and followed along while watching the solo on another DVD player. I was really going more
by notated queues that the transcriber had written. So good luck and hopefully you'll have better luck finding the section than I did.

He slows it down considerably in his dvd, Anatomy of a Drum Solo, but even then it is too fast for me to pick up.

Also he mentions 4-way independents - does anyone know what they are? He doesnt demonstrate, just says that hes still working on them 40 years later.

Thanks for the replies
I have Anatomy, and I caught on to what the crossovers were after he slowed them down. I don't have an option for note transcription, so I'll just use 0s signifying floor tom hits and 1s signifying snare hits:

001011011

Repeated. On the first one and last zero, you cross your right hand over to the snare and left hand over to the floor tom, respectively.

Also, 4 - way independence is complete independence of movement among all four limbs.

Re: double hand crossover

Yes, I sort of have. I was watching Neil Peart's "Anatomy of a Drum Solo" dvd in which he discusses his method. So I am going from that source. I "paused" the video and moved it frame by frame to get the correct sequence. I've only done about 40 beats of it, but since it is a repeating pattern, I'm sure any good drummer can figure out the rest.

My key is this: RH= Right Hand; LH=Left Hand; RD=Right Drum; LD=Left Drum
And the * indicates which hand is hitting which drum: as an example LH*RD=
left hand hitting right drum. Sorry, I'm not a musician, so this is the best transcription
I could come up with.
In terms of the "sticking" it is just basically rh lh rh lh rh lh rh lh like a single-stroke roll
However, the sequence as to which hand is striking which drum is an entirely different matter. However, there is a regular pattern that is easily seen. I think what I've included below should
be more than enough to get anyone started. I hope it helps. Good luck.

1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4
RH*RD LH*LD RH*LD LH*LD RH*RD LH*RD RH*LD LH*RD

RH*RD LH*LD RH*LD LH*RD RH*LD LD*LD RH*LD LH*LD
