Need replacements

All right, so my 16th b-day is coming up, and I'm spending my money on my drums. Can someone give me a couple recommendations for:
New heads-MUST get those first, my coated emperors are filled with holes
Double Pedal-Next on my list. Nothing expensive (no iron cobras for m ), but I'm looking at the DW 3000 pedals, and I heard they were the 7000 series.
Snare-Last but not least. Preferred sizes- 12 x 5, 13 x 6.5, 14 x 5, 14 x 5.5, 14 x 6, 14 x 6.5
Also, on a side note, does improving the acoustics in a room help recording? I plan to put up drum covers on Youtube, so I need better sound quality. I hear hanging up acoustic foam helps.
Thanks, and remember- Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn.

Re: Need replacements

For heads: what kind of sound are you looking for? What genre do you play?

For pedals: I would say go for the 3002s. I own 7002s and have not had a problem with them for the two years I have owned them, they work great. Like you said, the 3000 and 7000 series are similar, so go for it. You can also check out Pearl P902 and Tama Iron Cobra Jr. pedals. I prefer my 7000s over these other pedals, but try before you buy and get what you like best.

For snare: What is your budget on a snare drum? Do you want wood or metal? What kind of wood/metal? What sound are you looking for? Every size you mentioned produces a different sound.

For recording: Do you plan on using mics or just using the camera mic? Changing acoustics definitely helps with recording, but I know not whether foam would work well or not. I shall let a drummer more experienced in this particular subject respond.

Heads- I play any form of rock and metal.
Pedals- 3002's it is.
Snare-My entire budget is 350, I prefer birch, and a rock or metal sound.
Recording- I have a Samson mic which does well.

Re: Need replacements

Ok, I would recommend Evans EC2 SSTs for your toms, if you want to get a new bass head, try Aquarian Superkicks or Evans EMAD. Remo Pinstripes are also good on the toms, but since I switched to Evans it will take a lot to get me back to Remo. Aquarian Studio X heads are also good, if you are experienced at tuning. If you are very serious about finding heads that you like, go to the store and buy a head from each brand/line that you are interested in at the smallest tom size you own. Put each head on and decide which one you like best. Also, for resonant heads, all I have ever used other than stock heads is Evans G1. They are great.

Birch snares, in my experience, are hard to find unless they come with an entire birch kit. The Mapex MPX snare is the only one I can think of right off hand, but it is some $150 or so. Maple snares are much more common. For a rock/metal sound, you can use any dimension, but you probably don't want anything smaller than 13x6.5 or so. Actually, a 13x6.5 would be great, the extra depth makes a deeper crack, but you could also get any bigger snare.
Seriously, for snares, try before you buy. Go to the shop and try things out. Everyone likes a different sound.

Re: Need replacements

Actually, a Pearl VX snare I found is 99 bucks, so that will do. Only thing left is heads, and EC2's, I'm considering, along with the G2's. I ain't going with Remo for a while, as I want to try from each company. However, no music store for 50 miles where I live. It's a gamble.

Ah, that sucks. There are music stores where I'm at, they are lame, but they are actually there. Glad you found a snare.

Re: Need replacements

Butter gave you great advice on everything else but I can add to the recording question. If you don't mind your room looking pretty ghetto old mattresses and thick blankets hung up around the room help for recording. Also if you don't have your drum set on a rug, do it. Not only does it keep things from sliding around but it helps reduce echoes too. Also another way to get good recordings is dont play too loud or too soft and make sure your kit is in tune Also play around a little with the EQ on the audio, just don't overdo it.

Re: Need replacements

Well, I live in a trailer (No comments, please). The rug suggestion is something I'm pondering, but...What the hell is EQ? I don't mix, or own any microphones, aside from a Samson mic which replaces my Canon FS30 mic. So...yeah.

Re: Need replacements

EQ is short for equalization.

Oh. Well, how do I go about doing so? Is there something I need to buy?
