Lightbulb Re: Stick control

This is an old thread, but if anyone's still reading, here's a new response.

I used the book on my own for a while. Then I started with a great new teacher, and he immediately asked me if I have the book. Using it under his direction is even better. For example, he'll have me go through a page substituting the ride for the hats. In other words, whatever he wants me to work on, he knows how to adapt the book to it.

The book itself isn't a work of genius, it's just a phenomenal piece of collection. Stone carefully developed an encyclopedic progression of exercises. I guess no one has done it better, because this is the one everyone wants to use.

Re: Stick control

After 50+ years of drumming, it all comes down to the Moeller Technique.

That is still the foundation of drumming.

matchen,
Good to hear of your experience with Stone's Stick Control. Like your descriptions: "phenomenal piece of collection" "encyclopaedic progression of exercises."
No question this stuff works.

Re: Stick control

I've not been back to this post for quite a while so many thanks to all of you who have posted, your replies are very helpfull.

Sad to say that I haven't got past page two yet before the monotony sets in I guess my attention span must be equal to that of a goldfish.BUT I can say that the little I have done does seem to have made a difference so I will persevere with it. I will probably set myself up with a practise pad at work and get payed for learning HA HA

Cheers guys,
Clive.
