Stick control

Eyup! Me again.

Have any of you guys used the tutor book "Stick control" by George L Stone?

Is it something I can work through on my own or should it be used in conjuncution with a teacher?

I would be gratefull for any insights.

Much obliged.

Clive.

Re: Stick control

I just hope that it helped at least a little. And I hope that it answered your question.

Any kind of help as far as learning goes, whether it be through Drum Tab Books, Videos or a Tutor, is a great advantage for you.

I had to learn through the school of hard knocks. Mostly by ear.

After playing by ear, I always get a headache.

It's a classic, quality book. You could start out on your own and get to a teacher when you can't handle it on your own anymore.

stick control is an awesome way to go though.
I think like dtxtremeiiispecial says, do what u can, (obviously slow so u can hear if its right or not) and then if u feel u need some guidance, seek it.

Btw Something that helped me was recording myself playing rudiments. Ive no idea if anyone else does this, but this way you really get to know the score, doesnt matter how crappy the recording sounds aslong as u can hear your sticks and a click... so recording the stick control stuff would perhaps help.

Re: Stick control

Yes I have that very book.. Its a good muscle builder for hands and feet. It teaches different coordination and I would recommend working with it.. You dont really need an instructor, just follow the L and Rs carefully. Its a good exerciser for feet too if you want some double bass practice too. Whats up with the way he writes in the beginning of the book. Its halarious.

Re: Stick control

The Moeller Method is another way to get the stick control, under control.
