HELP Drum Notation!!!!

Hi Im really in need of some help on thisI gotta record this part in the next couple days its all pretty simple execpt one bar i dont understand, nothing to do with note vales i got that coverd, but its where there placed verticaly...
So at last the question the notes are written like forward slashes = /
and they sit accross the snare and floor tom line (2 middle lines)
ive seen slashes on there own to mean, 'keep playing style' but these have note values to them, so????
Im stuck on this any light would be awesome
Thanks in advance
(sorry for the essay lol)

Re: HELP Drum Notation!!!!

Those are rests. They are silent counts or spacers between notes that are not played but are counted.

A slash with one dot is an eight rest and each addtional dot halves the rest, so a slash with two dots is a sixteenth rest. They can also show in a triplet as one of the notes, and when they are you will see a number 3 over the triplet (or under if it is the bass line).

I also thought they might be rest but they dont have dots and they do have tales(my bad i didnt explain it well)
it turned out its a way of suggesting notation, so rhythm is specified but pitch isnt.
Chord chart - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
aparrently they do it with convetion music notation also only then your given a chord to stick to(otherwise haha), just means its up to you which you feel fits the mood best.
Next time i should upload a picture, i was just in a rush.
Thanks for the speedy reply bro!

Ah slash notation, very prevalent in jazz and blues charts although I personally have had little exposure to it.

You could still add a pic of the sheet music, that way maybe someone else will be familiar with it when they see it.

Glad I could almost but not quite help!

Re: HELP Drum Notation!!!!

yea man and big band music too Ive heard
...The last post I wrote dosent actually make much sense haha, i was still half asleep i think.

Anyway for anyone who hasnt seen this type of notation, it simply means.
This is the rhythm the writter suggests, use your best judgement from the music around it, as to which drum or cymbal you play.
I also understand that if the player feels they should, they can add or subtract to that rhythm thats being suggested (in the notation).
So in this example its the very last bar in the song, (1 note is tied) so thats 3 big hits(notice the accents) so you could imagine you could play all 3 on crashes, or the 1st one as a flam on the snare then the other 2 you crash with bass drum, its like endless, loads of ways you could do it.
I really hope this helps anyone, cuz i was really stuck on this!
peace
