Talking Burlesque Gig

To my good friends Jim and Der - belated happy New Year gents - hope life is good and the drums are rocken.

Still playing like mad - you'll be glad to hear although wrists are still bad - went to the Doctor to get advice and she said "GIVE UP DRUMMING" 10 Bleeden years in Medical School and that's the best she could come up with :0) - she should have asked me to cut off my head or arms would do this quicker - anyway she's never dated a drummer obviously :0)!!

Gents, I had one of the weirdest gigs of my young life - asked to do a dep. gig for the Dublin Burlesque Social Club - great music old school swing standard - loved it - but the chicks stripping off in front of me man - Let's just say I dint know which way to look - I know this is a family friendly site - so you guys can work out the rest!! - i.e. 2 feet from the kick drum - great fun - and getting paid for it - life doesn’t get any better - well besides sharing the back stage changing room with them - man it's good to be a drummer!! Be well Lads - Phil from Sunny Dublin

Re: Burlesque Gig

That could be very distracting while playing. Ever forget what song you were playing?

Better you than me, I would end up with a skillet across the side of my head if my wife found out.

Hats of to ya my friend and many more blessings.

Well Jim - Agree - My missus was very understanding and she's a red head :0) Surprised !! - then again she knows I'm all about the Jazz :0) Check out some of the photos on my facebook link - Phil Gaynor | Facebook I've toned most of them down although if you look in my burlesque album you'll see the chick I was telling you about

Hope all is well stateside - Ireland as I'm your you've read is finding it tough at the mo... Day to day business is not too bad but the Government have made a balls of it!!

I'm drumming away - I went back for drum lessons would you believe it - A super well known legend of Irish Drumming Conor Gilfoyle - And I'm getting such a brilliant insights - I reckon no matter how long you play, lessons every now and then is a great idea to open your mind in a new direction.

Re: Burlesque Gig

Hey my friend, I have been thinking about you lately. Was hoping that your absence was because you work working your wrists to the bone and not because you were in the slammer!

It is great to hear you are doing well and having fun (one gig more than others it sounds like), remember just because you are on a diet, doesn't mean you can't look at the menu!

Be good Phil it was great hearing from you and we are looking forward to chatting with you some more.

Re: Burlesque Gig

Sound. Der. Yes drumming like a big drummey thing - you know it's fun when you get 3 or 4 calls from different bands to do the same night - Gigging average about 3 a week some 4 or more January is a quet month - but we've picked up some nice work - My main band is a cheesy 50's Rock and Roll Band called mambo rock Mambo Rock Band | Ireland?s Premier Rock n Roll Band - I love it - early Bill Haley, Little Richard etc - popular with the party and festival nights in Ireland - but my first love is the Blues - I play with a few well know bands and man it's such fun when you get a chance to play with really good Blues heads - brings the best out of your playing - How's all with you boys (Der, Jim) you boys gigging - Jim I never did see that amazing kit of yours - expecting photo soon Phil.

Re: Burlesque Gig

The kit was setup to take the pics. I setup for playing the kit much closer for playing.

And since I have two Gibraltar racks, I the curved racks to the setup to my comfort and so can the other drummers. The rack is on lockable wheels.

I don't use both snares at the same time either. It's either the wood snare or the steel snare. Depending on what type of genre calls for.

It's a Gretsch USA custom Maple with a rosewood finish.

Hanna Ford's thread plays the same kit without a double bass. A post you probably missed. But I can change the heads to get a huge variation on the sound due to the 30 degree bearing edge on the rims. I brings back the old 60's sound too.
