Any Advice for a LH Drummer?

So here's the deal.. I'm left handed and I play guitar right handed. Have done so for 15 years. I've experimented with open hand, but I want to play cross handed like RH players because it gives me the ability to sit down and play anyones kit without having to adjust the HH or the Ride.

Here's my problem..

My right SIDE feels incredibly weak when compared to my left - both hands and feet. I can do some double bass drumming, but if it gets to fast, or if I stop paying attention, my left side will take over the dominant beat. In other words, I'll start with my right foot on beats 1357, and it'll somehow end up on 2468 since my left took over.

Any advice or tips?

That's why rudiments were invented. By practicing them constantly instead of play habbitualy, the brain pattern become ambidextrious.

If you look at any begginers books or drum lessons, it in fact always mentions to reverse the rudiment patterns.

For example: RR, LL vs LL, RR & LRR, RLL vs LL, RR & RLL, LRR and so on. Repetition of any pattern will get you stuck playin in only one way and that in itself becomes a habbit method of playing.

As a drumming coach I tell all of my students to practice the Moeller Technigue.

So rudiment patterns were made for lefties as well as for righties. It's all a matter of breaking old habbits.

Bike riding will help strengthen the weaker leg muscles by adding more effort into the weaker one.

Here is an example of a Single Paradiddle lesson:

The same lesson can be adapted to a bass double peddal. But most important is to practice, practice, practice. Until it becomes second language.

There's no magic to it, you just need to practice. It's only the bass drum that you need to work on because you don't need to cross over the hands on the hi-hat. I set up my kit with two bass drums and two hi-hats and two ride cymbals so I can become completely ambidextrous. I'm making progress slowly but surely. I think it's a great goal.
