glad to be back

Hi everyone , been away from the site for a while what with one thing and around ten thousand others ! , anyway just thought i'd drop in and see whats doing etc . I think my last posting was to let you know that I had purchased a set of Ludwig's epic pro's , and i am pleased to tell you that , for me they are the perfect kit , i slapped some evans g2 coated on them ( i was an evans virgin up until that point ) and I must say that they are nice skins to work with and compliment the kit beautifully , I stuck with remo on the bass with a ps2 . I did however stumble into one problem with the kit and im sure that this will have been covered in a forum discussion somewhere within this sanctum , and im slightly red faced that I did not foresee this slight hinderance when I tried the kit ...... but anyway that's enough waffling . The Ludwig comes with A 24"virgin bass which can , if you are padantic about these things make tom placement tricky , I use a snare stand for my single "12 " mounted tom" and with my old 22" bass I had no problems getting it low enough to be on a level with my snare , you would be surprised what a difference 2" makes !
The result of this is that I either had to have my tom off centre , which didn't feel right at all , or raise my tom so high up that I had to change the position of just about everything on the kit just to accomodate this change , I have been playing with low flat toms for 25 years and wasn't relishing changing everything for this one oversight + it made the kit and me look like some 80's thinly produced pop / metal throwback , less the bleached hair and torn jeans of coarse . I wasn't having that either ....and I suppose that sheer desperation led me to wrack my brains for a practical solution which i think i found .
I bought a pearl double pedal a while ago but have only ever used it as a single , so i got the extending bar , connected it and thus now i can set my snare, tom and 14" floor tom in a tight low triangle and use the second bass pedal to drive the main pedal in a kind of slave system , and my 16" floor tom sits nicely just off the bass drum , cymbals , high hats not affected . I wonder if anyone else has done a similar kind of thing or has got a really simple solution that i did not hit upon ? . Its been so long since i have been on here that i
have forgotten where i should post this , just guna hit post and hope for the best . cheers .....

That sounds like a great solution. Maybe you could post some pics so we can see how you have the kit set up.

Hmmm... sounds quite odd. I may be visualizing it incorrectly, though.
