Check out this video of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa "battling" it out. It is amazing how far drumming has progressed in 40 years. I think Gene Krupa's solo is pretty pathetic by TODAY's standards but Buddy Rich still smokes. Watch around the 2 minute mark as Buddy goes into hyperdrive.

Both of Them Are Great Drummers. Gene's Solo was not Pathetic Because Technicality has Nothing to do With Music Being Good. The Only Thing That Matters is Musicality.
Thanks for the vid, I've not seen this in many years.
While Gene is more of a contemporary style, Buddy is more of a jazz style drummer. Either way, they both sounded great together. This is more like team work than a battle.
Personally, I've always thought that while Buddy Rich is indeed a more technical player than Gene Krupa, Krupa has a sense of style and swing that Rich has never really had as much of....
