Mallets or Brushes

I'd like to know if any drummers on the forum have used Mallets or Brushes to play on their drum kits.

Besides me.

Re: Mallets or Brushes

Been using brushes for a while. On a whim I was going to buy some mallets the other day but I went into a local shop and they didn't have any.

I thought they were like a standard thing to have! Although do they have more of an application than just cymbal work? I have heard them used on a snare with the wires off that sounded cool.

Re: Mallets or Brushes

Just bought myself a pair of mallets. Looking forward to testing them out when I get home!

Re: Mallets or Brushes

I keep a variety of sticks, mallets and brushes in my stick bag - I've done a lot of broadway type shows and you never know what you're going to need. Most companies make "combo" mallets (brush on one end and stick on the other - or some other combination). There's a felt/stick combo called "swizzle" sticks. That would keep you from buying 2 seperate prs of sticks.

I said all that to say that I do use all 3.
