Re: drumcovers! How to do?

Lighting is up to you. Personally I couldn't care less. a PA system is needed for live venues/pissing off your neighbors only, so it is IMO near completely unnecessary for your use.

Just mic your set. I like Shure SM57 mics because they are relatively decent and won't break the bank. If you want something a little higher up I would go with Sennheiser E604s. Nice, small mics that clip onto the drum hoops. Then maybe get 2 overhead mics for your cymbals, but individually mic your hats and ride.

Then put that into editing software, like garage band or whatever. for video it is as simple as Windows Movie Maker.
Edit it ALWAYS so the music starts at 00:00:00:00:00. THEN put the intro in front of that as a separate track, then splice the two tracks into one. Repeat above for video.

Watch this it is actually a really good how to about setting things up both in studio and in editing.

I use the JVC Everio HD with the Everio External mike that mounts on top of the cam.

chaser334 got it right for just doing covers.

So unless you intend to go pro recording, it's best to get what you can afford.

These HD cams come with their own software to load them into your computer and get them on YouTube right away.

The camera sounds good but if you want to equalize (?) the sound of the toms, snare, bass, whatever you'll need to buy the mics 'cuz you can't do that with cam! I'd go for the camera though.

Re: drumcovers! How to do?

*UPDATE*

I now use a zoom Q3HD for non-professional covers on facebook. Too much effort to drag out all my stuff and waste time setting it up then tearing it down.

This is what I use for video (and audio on the occasion if i'm pressed for time)
Q3HD Handy Video Recorder

Otherwise I set it up at the 10 o'clock position on my kit (from the player perspective looking down and across the kit) and also use a Zoom H2 mounted on a boom mic stand behind me that is in the center of my kit, and suspended a foot above the highest cymbal.

I also experimented putting the H2 at the 12 o'clock of my kit, 6 inches away from the most out-sticking point, and a centimeter or 2 above the bass drum, with the camera still in the position previously stated.

My writing makes it seem more complicated then it really is
But try what suits your style/needs the best. Zoom is a great, high quality company. Even just messing around with a Q3HD will satisfy your needs for under 400 bucks.
