Flipping toms over

The kit at the church where I currently play gigs has some heads that are getting beat down pretty hard. When I asked one of the guys if we could replace the heads he simply told me to just flip over the toms. (Shamefully, he's a drummer too). Has anyone ever done this? I could imagine that the drums wouldn't sound good with such bad reso heads but how did it sound?

yeah Ive done it before
WHEN I WAS LIKE 12
and didnt know any better.
If it still has the orginal heads on the bottom you will probly not like the sound that they make at all, I would say that it is going to be kinda high pitched and not going to get a real good sound out of them at all.

also I would ask that guy if he would flip his snare oer and start playing on that head as well If you do that you are just going to end up replacing twice as many heads real soon.

Yeah, I agree but I can't really argue since they're paying for it and make all the purchasing decisions.

I flipped over the toms on my old set a couple times, but that was because they were abnormaly HUGE toms. The thing looks like it has Mickey Mouse ears. I was trying to get them to fit on decent so they would be easier to play. I switched the heads too though, so I didn't damage the ones on the bottom, even though it looked like some one had played on them before.

it's not an issue to flip the toms over and then switch the heads, the only thing then is that your logos will be upside down, it is just playing on the bottom heads that is the issue.

If drums were made to be played on both ends than non of us would know the difference between the resonant side and the batter side. Please this behaviour should not be tolerated.. Treat the drums with respect please.
