I know that rudiments are crucial for any drum player, but playing mostly set does anyone have all the marching rudiments and such down by heart? Do y'all use them in your playing for set anytime? Just curious because i don't knoow if i should invest more time in learning them or focus on other thigns as a set player
What I started doing that was shown to me is when you are doing your warm ups on the set try and move from one drum to the next for each beat.
so like start at the snare and go back and forth from snare to tom and keep working your way around the kit.
somthing that neal peart was showing was to play pardiddels around the set so you would play 1 snare 2 tom 3 2nd tom 4 floor tom
he makes it look really easy but it kicks my butt, Im still roking on it but that is just a few of the things you can do on kit.
Rudiments are crucial for a drummer not so much in the classical aspect of things but also for the drumset. rudiments will help you out alot my suggestion is study the arts of classical snare rudiments then you can apply those to the drumset

thats how I started out with just a snare drum in middle school and that was somthing that was pushed on us very hard and then later by my drum teacher
Im very grateful for it though and I do try an get my students to learn them as well as they can.
