I've found that as drum tabs become more popular, drummers are becoming less knowledgable about reading REAL music.. is this becoming a problem? kids these days want to learn the coolest songs rather than tough it out and practice rudiments and such... i guess that's what separates the serious players vs the blow offs... anyone else with me on this?

I am for one.

Some of the students Ive had in the past want to just blow past the learning everything like the proper way to hold the sticks and what not to just going strait to the drums.

But I try as best I can, most of the time I will try to seperate them from the drums and sit them down with a pair of sticks a pad and a dry erase board and try and teach them how to read it and play it but its hard some times.

there are also computer programs out there that transribe tabs properly
