Arrow How fast are you?

Since the drumometer is pretty popular, I'm posting up this poll.. How fast are you playing single strokes in terms of beats per minute? Play 16th notes as fast as you can and see how many beats you can play in a minute... 4 strokes is 1 beat...

I think the world record is 300 bpm.. and just for comparison I think I've read somewhere that Travis Barker plays 240 bpms...

cool poll!
I don't have a drumometer but I think I clock at around 150 bpm... lots of room for improvement for me.

yeah it'd be pretty hard to do it without a drumometer especially if you have some really quick strokes. But hey, it'll improve your counting skills no doubt

here is the real question.
Which is better speed or tech or both combined and I am manly talking about the bass.
For me I am not very fast with my feet and I know that I have tried everything I could think of that you would even do with your hands to build up more speed but I just cant seem to get my left foot to go with me on this like it just refuses, but dont get me wrong Im not slow either and some of the hard work has paid off and I have gotten somewhat fast than I was before, but when it comes down to tech I am really good at that like coming up with weird rythums on the bass drum involving trips, flams 8th and 16th notes and I have yet to have anyone not like it and I can play it to a certion speed but after that it just go's to garbage and dosnt sound good at all because I guess Im trying to do to much.

so then that would be about 200 beats per minute.... not bad mate.. not bad at all. How long have you been playing for?

240... ahem I WISH.. I think im more around 180 although I've never officially measured it before...

but from the way I look at it, how fast you are does not matter one bit. I mean, it does to a certain degree but I don't think extreme single strokes have any application. When are you ever going to apply this to music or when are you ever going to play a fill during a song at 250 bpm? It's really just for show which is fine, but I don't think it should be stressed as much as it is these days.. happy drumming!

yeah you bring up a good point travis..
but then I would have to disagree with you about the applicability.. if you can play super fast single strokes, of course you're not going to use them directly in music.. but what I'm saying is that with those chops everything else will be easier and you'll be able to apply your quickness in other areas like playing fast really softly in dynamics. Overall, it'll help you to flow better around the kit better and everything will be so much easier. It's not just for show and tell really and I think it is useful even if it's in more subtle ways when playing with a band or something
