Soundproofing; the eternal struggle.

What problems have any of you faced? How have you overcome them?

I used to live out of town miles away from any neighbours. My parents had a large, brick shed that I stole some room from and began my life as a noisey little barstad.

Those days are gone. I got married, moved into suburbia and now I share a fence with 4 other rate payers.

My house has a detached room out the back which I have decked out with industrial refridgerator panels and a ton of silicon (caulk), but I still have one neighbour who can't take the thumping of my band.

I have included the plans of my room to show you what I've done. From here I will be erecting a layer of "Hardifence" (corugated fibre cement) a foot out from the outer wall. From there I can raise the fence between our houses (it's currently only 4 foot high) after that it gets expensive, and I've been told putting a layer of sheet rock on the inside will help.

Drummers unite and fill me with your wisdom!!

A layer of sheet rock... wow, that's pretty intense soundproofing. Let us know how that goes!

Is that you and your band in the house in that picture?

Thats my band on stage. We're called At Fault and you can check out some dodgey recordings of us at myspace.com/atfault.

Sheet rock, or gyprock as we call it over here, is a standard wall covering that goes for about $20AU per 1.2x2.4 m. I need to get this sorted so we can make some better recordings. You'll see why from the website.

The sound inside the room is quite intense as it is a small room, but I will rectify this with some dappening (old blankets) when I get the time.

Right now I need to a solid barrier between my noise and one particular neighbour.
