It's great that you guys get a kick out of playing rudiments. For starting or intermediate drummers who don't know how to fluently play the rudiments, it can be like pulling teeth. Once you're flying though, I'm sure it can be really enjoyable. Wish I could get to that point already...

Re: Can you play the 40 Essential Snare drum rudiments?

I can play the following: Single Stroke Roll, Single Stroke Four, Single Stroke Seven, Multiple Bounce Roll (Buzz Roll), Triple Stroke Roll, All the types of paradiddles, Flam, Flam Tap, Flam Paradiddle, Flam Paradiddle-Diddle, and I can barely do a Drag.

Favorite: Either a Flam or a Buzz Roll

Least Favorite: Drag and a Double Stroke Open Roll. I don't know how to do Double Stroke Open Rolls!!!!!!!

Re: Can you play the 40 Essential Snare drum rudiments?

I've got the original 26 down well. I can play most of the others, but I do occasionally get confused about which one is which, and some I do better than others. My favorite rudiment for some reason seems to be the flamacue, I find myself sticking it in a lot. I play rudimental bass drum with a local group of drummers here, that get together and play for fun. Mostly ex drumcorp guys. It's a lot of fun and keeps my chops up.

A rudiment is one of a set of basic patterns used in rudimental drumming. These patterns form the basic building blocks or "vocabulary" of drumming, and can be combined in a great variety of ways to create drumming music.
This is the best way I could find to express what the rudiments are.

My favorite is the Paradidle-didle. It's quite versatile. Not to get off track, Yes I can play all 40 and combine the beats.
