What makes a good cowbell?

What makes a good cowbell? Are there certain metal or shapes that determine the quality of the cowbell? Any suggestions for good cowbells?

I use a Black 10" Cowbell the Black ones have a more solid sound than the others and I find that that sound is what I like for Latin Tunes, and some Rock as well.

well, you want a metal cowbell (duh). I don't have a cowbell, but I know you might want one with a medium pitch, not too high or too low. Unless you want more than one, then the size doesn't matter.

Re: What makes a good cowbell?

I have two cowbells, a 4" and a 6" made by Latin Percussion. The first to use cowbells were the Hispanics in Latin music to complement the timbales.

The best cow bell is the one that rack of beef that she was wearing at the old farm. "Just kidding".

But seriously cow bells are like cymbals, depending on how they are struck, you always get a different sound from them. Still have to get a ten inch cow bell.

I find leprechauns make good cowbells... They squeal when you stick em on the post but after you hit 'em a few times they just hang out....

Get a bunch of posts and you can have a whole gaggle of em... Like a green glockenspiel...

Check out Stanton Moore and his cowbell.. Man this guy rocks...

Don I think your confusing Leprechauns with Mandrakes they squeal as much as Banshees.

It was a nice vid though.
