Your drum playing personality

What is your personality like when you're playing the drums? I know a lot of guys who are soft spoken and quiet who when they get behind the drums, tear it up like they're drumming animals. Terry Bozzio is like that.

A lot of drummers say that you should play to your personality and express yourself, but I think that when you're playing drums a lot of other sides that were never let out of you come out too. Any comments?

Good question. I think I can afford to play with more personality. A lot of time I get timid on the set and am afraid to play things. But this isn't necessarily what my personality is like...

I just let loose when I get behind the set! When I played at my towns' talent show, I remember my mom saying that I looked possesed.

Yeah I like to go nuts behind the kit.

I love a good, heavy groove that I can bounce on my stool to and realy slap my skins to. I.e Killing In The Name, Attitude, Clown, Fuel, Suck My Kiss, etc.

dudes, there's nothing wrong with cutting loose behind the kit. That's what she's there for, you know? Stress relief is a big factor in the medical drumming world, decreasing chance of heart attacks and (as I'm sure you've all experienced) relieving the pressures of the day. Besides, I too played timidly for quite some time, but as long as you stay within your comfortable limits, then I feel it's a much better idea to stay relaxed and cocky. It works to get rid of the anxiousness and keeps your mind clear. Getting all tense makes me lack a lot of creativity and brain work. Peace.

Good point pey... drumming really is a form of stress relief. No need to add extra stress and worry about thing when you're playing. Whether or not there are people watching you, just go out there and pound on those things like there's no tommorow. Let all your emotions out... It's what music is, a form of art.

I guess for me people wouldn't expect me to play the drums, since I'm a girl and all~ So when I get behind a drum set and start playing people are automatically shocked so I just gotta get past that~ Then I can just be myself and play~
