Female drummers Are there any other female girl drummers out there~? I know that I'm an uncommon species around these areas being a girl and all...
Some of my favorite female drummers are Cindy Blackman, Hilary Jones, and Meg White. They're real pioneers in terms of women in drumming!
Some say playing the drum is unladylike - my parents even told me that at one point. I've always been sort of a tomboy growing up so I guess it's fitting. But I'm a woman now and I love playing the drums and I'll beat all the boys! |

| | | My first band was something of a Hole cover band so I began mimicking then drummer Patti Schemel. She was pretty cool and kept me well practiced in my earlier years.
Other awsome femalien bands/drummers I loved were L7, Babes In Toyland and Drain.
There's some research for ya. |

| | | I can think of a few boys you can't beat: Danny carey, dave weckl, vinnie colaiulta, buddy rich, tony williams, dennis chambers, tony royster jr, virgil donati, billy cobham. Listen to them and you will have your socks rocked right off! You can see clips of them on drummerworld.com (one of the best websites for drummers currently in existence).
Where female drummers are concerned, or at least the pioneers of such you should never forget Sheila E. She has done a lot for y'all!
You also might like to check out PAS.org (percussive arts society) and dig on/learn/indulge in the twenty six rudiments. Practice your singles and doubles (the long roll, as it were) and your paradiddle primarily (regular inside and reverse) and flams (incidentally you can also flam paradiddles, they are called flamadiddles, who would have thought?).
This is just for starters, have fun!

| | | Bring them on! I'll beat them all! Danny who~?
Haha! Well all kidding aside, I love the boys too but I can relate more to the women drummers who are a real rarity in the music industry too.
Of course, how can I forget Sheila E. Add her to the list as well.
Hi DrummerMom! Add her to the list too~! |

| | | Danny Carey is the drummer for a progressive rock band called/named TOOL. He is quite incredible, has fast hands and feet (that is to say 'blazing chops) and is also a connosieur of polyrythms ('lateralus'and 'ainima' are a couple of songs he used these on/during). You might try checking them out, they are currently on tour (they recently released a cd called 10,000 days). You'll like his drumming, guarenteed! Also Dennis chambers, he's extensively talented as well... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
