Re: Difficulty of drums compared to other instruments I would have to rate drums, piano, and harps among the more difficult due to the fact that they have pedals and require more than finger coordination and timing, they also require hand/ foot coordination. Where drums stand out in difficulty is the timing, dexterity and coordination required from every limb on your body. To be good requires a lot more physical endurance than any other instrument. When was the last time you saw someone sit down at a piano, practice for a couple hours and walk away dripping with sweat? Drums are like living growing instruments ranging from single snares to kits like Terry Bozio's who's pedal array alone would have the most seasoned percussionists scratching their heads. I had to quit playing for over 10 years and thought that because I was once good I would always be good, but after starting over almost from scratch I realized how difficult it can be.... and how much drumming has changed. My hat goes off to every musician who can master their instrument of choice, even more those who master more than one. I've "tried and died" with other instruments and know that none are as easy as others may make it look. |
