| I definitely agree that moongel (or o-rings, or gaffer's tape, or a wallet, or...etc.) should not be employed as a substitute for good tuning skills. However, the sound of a damped snare drum isn't better or worse than an "open" snare - it's just a different sound. Most of my snare drums are left "wide open," with single-ply coated batter heads (vs. pre-muffled heads), but some of my drums do benefit from a little judicious use of muffling, from time to time at least. |
