Anyone here care about good stage presence?

Hey everybody...Newbie, here! I dig the site, lots of good information. I was wondering how many drummers here care about good stage presence. I have always been into entertaining the audience as well as playing great grooves. I was wondering if any of you felt the same way.

I feel so strongly about it, I filmed an instructional DVD entitled Visual Drumming. At first, I did it for myself, but the early responses I've gotten have led me to poll more drummers on the subject. If you get a chance, check out my myspace page I created for it and read what some folks have already been saying. I am surprised at the support I've gotten. I'd like for anyone who wants to, after you go to my page, if you could post some of your thoughts on the subject.

Thanx for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear some opinions soon. Cheers!

First, welcome dude - have fun and enjoy your stay !

I'll visit your page as soon as I can but back to your thread subject - I do some stick twirling and currently working on Jeff Queen "three way backstickin" and also on one hand roll, with both techniques, one using push-pull or open-close and the one using the rim as fulcrum then I'll be able to twirl my sticks while doing snare roll

Welcome aboard! I watched the video trailer for your video. Great work. I thought it was funny when it looked like you were hitting yourself in the head.

Hey man, hows' it going?

I couldn't agree with you more regarding stage pressence. It can be hard comanding it from behind a wall of wwod and metal at the very back of the stage, but I believe we all have to do our bit out there.

I try to take it a few times during our shows. Sometimes just by elongating a pause in a song. Unfortunately my bass player doesn't always get it, and once he actually was prompting me to start in the middle of this suspensful, feedback driven break. I could have throttled him.

Stage presence?? I played my (and you'll understand why it was what it was) junky $100 CB Percussion set, had the guitarist light it on fire, after giving it a squirt of charcoal starting fluid, and played them til the heads melted ....... by the way........ aloe is the best for burns ......... the wrap and the plactic heads really stink and make alot of smoke ......... oh and don't try this with long hair either. (experienced the Micheal Jackson Pepsi incident) People said it was REALLY cool ......... except for the club owner, the Dr's, my girlfriend, the fire company and myself. We all had a different take on it. Hee Hee

Wow, are you serious? Did you get it on video at all? That's really intense man and you're lucky you or others weren't seriously injured in something crazy like that... That's awesome though.

No. I wish I did though. I can post pics of scars though!! LOL I did that back in the early 90's. It was one of those things where it sounded like a cool idea as I was sure that only the fluid would burn and maybe just warp the wrap on the CB set .................... I was (and I hate to admit it) WRONG!! I didn't stop to think that the heat would cause the adhesives used in the shells and under the wrap to catch on fire so quickly. We were all lucky to get away with noone else injured but me. ('cause I was determined to stay there playing as long as I could) I don't want anyone to try this. It's just plain to dangerous. I'm one of those guys that's old enough to know better but still young enough not to care. (well I care alittle bit more now)
