I also found that tuning down the lugs directly on each side of the snares(on the snare or non-batter head) about 1/8 to 1/4 turn helps to fatten the sound. Experiment with this tuning trick and see if it makes a difference.

Evans Generra HD Dry head. Deep snare, tune it properly you'll get this.

Tunes the reso lower than the batter and keep the snares lose. A deep wood snare is the best, probably 8".
