Re: What does a drummer look like? Ha,ha,
This is proofing to be a popular topic, having more than 40 links on this topic......!
So maybe us drummers arrrre a little bit fussy about what image to project.
ONE TIME I DRESSED TO PROVOKE
I was playing in a big band, glorious music to perform being movie tracks like James Bond's Gold Finger ( full tilt big hitting, with big crescendo rolls on toms, with mallets, cymbal sizes 22 (x2), double handed head/high hits on the snare, the whole shebang, a cure for all your inhibitions forever...) but awfull to listen to if you know what I mean, not my type of music.
The conductor/band leader, who was a brilliant clarinet player and performed while leading the band was a personal dear friend of me.
Through some unhappiness between a couple of band members, our band leader resigned and we got a new one, a stupendus dickhead with the lousiest attitude you can image.
As I had the guts full of this " ownner operator " (wa***er) and decided for our next practice performance to put on a little of a show, fully understanding that by doing this it could mean the end of my association with this band, but by that time I did not give a flying ***** about that.
So I kitted myself out as follows:
Winter boots, with furry details!(it was in the middle of the summer)
The tightest black jeans you can imagine (it is a miracle that I have offspring at all)
An oversized jacket (colbert style) of a ghastly brown hue.
Over a faded old orange (Dutch) army sports T shirt
A Black Balaclava!!!
And I was smoking a cheroot!!!!
As I was playing (what's new) in the back, only our new prize ***** could see me, and he really struggled to keep going.
That was noted by some of our band members and they glimpsed around to see what the distraction was all about.
They collapsed in laughter followed by the rest of the band.
As you would expect I got what I deserved, but this dipstick did not survive himself, so the old band leader was reinstated and we played on for a couple of years.
Sorry it was a bit of a long story, but by writing it I relived it again, grin, grin, chuckle.
So much for appearences huh, lol.
Cheers, Harry |

I think it depends but the image of a drummer is probaly a punkish playboy - like Travis Barker
so if you dont look like him people will not think youre a drummer. | I seen a drummer once that actually made me angry. I have been playing for thirty odd years and consider myself an eternal student. However, when I walked into that club that night, I heard a "drummer" of a classic rock cover band being only able to play a total (and I counted) of 3 different styles of beats. None of which were any good. It was plain awful. He had a really nice set of drums. He had long hair. He could pose and make faces. He even put a drumstick between his teeth several different times. Now, he certainly had the look of a "drummer". However, he lacked even the basic fundamentals that most of us have had to learn through practice after practice as well as watching someone of better skills humble us through a schooling performance. That guy insulted me and every other genuine drummer through his obvious parody. Escalade, I know you already know this, but never put the cart before the horse. Looks and showmanship are not as important as chops, technique and feel. The "drummer" look should come afterwards.

Re: What does a drummer look like? Obviously, a drummer is handsome and debonair, a man (or woman!) of exceptional class and air. Where are you lacking? (Ducking...looking about for projectiles...) I don't know either, but I have been told that I have what look like "drummer's hands". I also know of a friend whose fine drumming propelled a regional rock band into a national recording contract. He did the album and then they fired him because he "didn't have the right look". What a bunch of wankers.

Re: What does a drummer look like? When some one said "you look like a drummer", were you sitting behind a drumset? I figure when you see a head sticking up behind a drummer, yep, thats pretty much what a drummer looks like. |

Re: What does a drummer look like? I look like a singer lol. I guess I kind of look like a drummer. Dark spiked hair, 6 ear rings, wife beater all the time, studded belt, black clothes all the time. If I don't look like a drummer, I definetly look like a musician. |
