How to break away from a platue

Well I need to get better I am a self taught drummer, never had lessons before now I am at a platue and I need to get out of that I want to get better I want to be able to play in a band. I am not a total newb I can hold a beat and play certain grooves. Its just I can't get past that and I also sometimes have trouble keeping time when I play at church i either speed up or play to slow. So I am thinking about getting a metronome to keep me in time while I play.

But I just really want to get better should I think about getting lessons now or what tips can yall give me.

Here is what I do when I practice or "play around" I just go in and just start playing a groove and then I try to switch it up and go into another groove or what ever. Then I work on rudiments and stuff.

So thats me what should I do I am lost and confused.

Even the greats go back for lessons, no reason you shouldn't also. I am enirely self-taught as well. I'm about to go for lessons myself. Get the metronome! Trust me on this one. I will really help, especially when you do rudiments.

Lessons are always good but they cost money. I dont know if youve cheked online but there are a lot of online drumming instruction. Vicfirth.com has a bunch of sweet advice and new beats to try. Onlinedrummer.com has some cool stuff too. All you need is one small thing that is new to you. Take this and perfect it and then expand on it.

Seriously dude, lessons are the way to go. It's like having your own personal trainer for the drums.
