Question how do I mic my kick drums?

I have a Ludwig Accent kit, and I'm using an Audix D6 to mic the kick drum, wich has an Emad dampening thing on it. I can hear the kick after I record it in my headphones, but it sounds boomy and gets lost in the mix. I don't get that punch that I'm looking for. Any suggestions on how to position the mic?

Getting the punch is not so much about postition but the eq of your channel. If you want more punch, you'll have to increase the mid frequencies to allow some of the attack to get through as well as keeping the lows to keep the sound as deep as possible.

As for the position when recording, get the mic about "2 away from the head on the inside of the bass drum and point it slightly away from the impact.

Good luck.
