I actually just started switching my techniques recently, maybe 3 months ago. I've noticed the more you play heels down will help you gain speed and control with the heels up method. From what I understand playing the heels down method works some of the same muscles as the heels up. I play death metal/thrash too. I will tell you that it really does help. dudes...this guy is the snake champ!Nice trophy.I play heels-up but I'm working on getting my heels down for fast blasting or grinding.It seems to feel better as far as balance goes but its hard getting a good consistent sound.The volume is much softer heels down.

I use both heel up and down depending on what I am playing. Last year I got a Duallist pedal and now I can play double bass with one foot leaving the left foot able to play the hats at the same time......
