well,I think its probably a good oppurtunity depending on what you want to get accomplished.Country rock is a genre best described by straight up 4/4 and possibly a bluesy feel every now and again.Easy stuff from a drumming standpoint. These guys are probably looking for a "less is more" type drummer. If the money is right and the guys are cool and you don't hate the music too much I'd go for it.

If the musicians are good guys--Just do it--Todays country drumming is more blended into commercial rock than it used to be. Besides--NOTHING beats a WIDE range of experience. Any ones money is nice. You are after all- not going to marry them--Just play music in their band. Have a good time & expand your knowledge.

What they said. 94% of the country I have heard sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me, but thats just me. I would still wear earplugs and go for it.

Well I used to play heavy metal when I was growing up. Now that I am older I mainly play country. Some older and alot top 40(today's country) I find majority of your country you play a shuffle. ie... 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 on the hats.

It's country rock as opposed to country western which is a bit depressing.
My vocalist sings a bit of it and it's just grin and bear it.
A good listen to Shania Twain's two drummers will convince you it ain't all that bad.

Check these cats out

If the band is busy it means you can play heaps and work on groove when you get the songs off pat.
Also a great opportunity to get recognised if you are out there doing it.
Just because it's CR doesn't mean you will play it for a lifetime, though plenty have made careers out of it (see above drummers).

levon Helm,one comes to mind.

Don't wor y due about the country thing, its a lot of fun and the community worldwide is awesome. I used to get called up outta the blue to do a show with good pay and all you need to do really is understand 12 bar and play exact time with feel simple stuff really but oh so much fun.

More about me, I did a gig and supported Garth Brookes at a venue in North America with 80,000 people. It was awesome..... **hint its a natural amphitheatre in Washington State. The band needed a drummer that was all.....

Thumbs up Story time

Mr. G., It sounds like you may have a bit of a story to tell on the thread-
"Musician Stories". Please continue on there. I'd be very interested to hear your story about "George" Washington.
