Slap some Aquarian heads on those drums and an emad on that kick and you should be good to go.

Hmm, Aquarian? I was thinking of either remo powerstroke 3/4/pinstripe or evans g2s. Also, anyone know whether I should get coated or not? I was kinda leaning towards not...but not sure what the difference is ... I just think it looks bad when the coating is worn off :P

If you have never tried Aqaurian, you owe it to yourself.I use all aquarian exept an evans hd dry on my snare. The Super Kick II is bomb on my bass drum and performance 2 on my tubs, I really like the way it sounds. Its personal preference though.I have tried the G2's and prefer the Aquarians over the evans...even the Studio x will outperform a G2,although too muffled for me live.I grew out of Remo heads years ago.I have only used coated heads in 1 jazz situation.Thats it.Too ringy and bright.

Only been playing for like 3 months, lol

Maybe my music store will have a couple of kits with different heads that I can try..

Thx for ur help

The g2s' are more akin to the remo ambassadors. Pinstripes are more like evans ec2s'or hydraulic. I haven't tried aquarian myself, but I'm pretty sure they're more expensive.
Ec2s' are a more focused (dulled) sound than the g2's.
The g2 is 2 layers of mylar.
The Ec2 is also a double ply with a form of dampening ring around it.
Ambassador is two ply with hydraulic fluid in between this makes the sound more focussed than g2.
The Pinstripes are the same but with a third ring of mylar around the inside of the head for even more focussing.

Coating is a less offensive way of focussing the sound which is why a lot of drummers prefer coated g2 to Ec2.

Go to this site http://evansdrumheads.com/EVAProductsDS.aspx?ID=13 where you can compare the evans range and look into how they get their sound. This can help you with the other brands too.

Great advice Slapper!Treat yourself and spend the extra twenty bucks to hook up your kit with some Aquarians next time around. They have a product for everyone and they sound killer.I ended up with Aquarians through the old process of elimination.I have tried nearly every head out there, even those Remo Fiberskins....uuggghh.Alot of mediocre heads.Evans would be the next best.imo.The heads make the kit and a killer set will sound only as good as the heads you put on them.

Not a fan of branding hype, but i have found the Aquarians great heads. I am curently using Remo Emperors for batters as they suit my circumstance, but if you havn't tried out Aquarians, they are worth a crack. I will likely replace these with Response 2's.
Unfortunately the drum shops are likely to have cheaper quality heads on their new drums and of course the drums are likely going to be different to what you are using. Check out the three big head sites and inform yourself. The drum shop should have a staff member that can help you with your personal choice, if not find one, or an experienced drummer. A new set of heads can cost some but the most worthwhile and influential thing you can do to make your kit sound better. Being a learner you will need to learn the basics of tuning or get some help to ensure your new heads sound their best.

Comparison guide is helpful ...
