| | | I actually find the racks feet fit within the confines of my kit quite nicely, whereas my previous stands feet would have to extend out past the kit to be sturdy enough. Hence, stands took up more room on the floor than my rack, but it doesn't matter, it's personal preferance. Go with what you know. |

| | | Variations in my setup from time to time are normal.Sometimes you will get to a club and the riser is too small for your kit.Sometimes you will play a show and have to use a backline.Embrace the slight changes and don't be scared.Deal with it.It will make you a better player. |

| | | I havent been playing long which could possibly be an advantage here ... after 3 months of playing drums, I am already doing shows and having other people set up my set for me. Right now I've got everything on a rack that is using 9 clamps. I work at a sign shop and made stickers for each clamp that says what piece goes to it (obviously you dont need something that fancy looking, label makers would probably work well here too) and I was using nail polish for about a week but it was chipping, and I didnt want to use a sharpie (tried it once, didnt like my placement, used MEK to get the marker off and it ate through my stand =X eek.) SOOO I started using electrical tape. Same for the angle on cymbals too... the guys just match up the pieces of electrical tape.

| | | I find other people trying to help get in the way and causes double handling of gear, as they never get it right, so i do it myself. Besides i find setting up has become a part of my warm up and mind set routine prior to a gig, and it's about the only time i get a chance to check that everything is working o.k.
Lucky you Lastditch, my band's vocalist doesn't do ziltch but sing, doesn't even set up her own mike, leads or stand. It's a bit frustrating at times, i refuse to sound check her mike, but then at the end of the day she does get the gigs and collect the dollero. Wev'e found her absence from the stage at set up and break down times gives the rest of us more space, needed in a 5 piece band. Compromise in bands goes a long way if you want to stay together, wev'e done 8 years together so far and no bad moments to speak of, for that reason. |

I've got a large setup, so it takes alot of time to get all my crap off stage. My guys just grabs their amps and axes (they don't even have effects) and 2 minutes later they're yacking with their mates in the doorway while I'm yelling at them to grab something. My guys have a lot to learn about professionalism. |

| | | A little help goes a long way after a long night and a long set.We rehearse at a practice studio but the house drums are so terrible I have to bring and set up my kit every time.Sometimes 3 times a week.Plus shows. This is the main reason I didn't get a monstrous kit with a rack.I'm always getting hell from all the death metal guys here in Tampa about my little fusion kit. After it disappears into my trunk in about 10 minutes, they're still sweating it out in the parking lot.Great point about compromise,I am always stressing that to my guys about many issues. All in all,I think this is the tightest knit group I have been in.Of course...that is only due to that c word, compromise. |

| | | When I play out with a drummer, I let him set up his own kit, but what I will do is help him carry it in and out, so he doesn't have to make as many trips. The drummer in our big band where I play trombone is an old friend of mine, I'll help him tear down and pack up his set so we can get out of there quicker. He's always appreciative of the help. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
