need help please? hi to everyone here at Drumset Connect!
im just a new member here. anyway, i joined to learn something about playing the drums. i am an aspiring drummer for so long already.im already 18 years old and would like to start playing the drums to play with my brothers since they play lead guitar and the other bass guitar.
i do not know anything about playing them yet, however i do know some basic beats. i would like to ask for help on how to get started playing. And if there are free online tutorials out there or if you could send me some tabs maybe or tips. i really have the passion to play drums. i just need a kick start.
any kind of help would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

Is self study advisable?and am i already too old to start playing the drums? |

| | lol, no one can be "to old" to play anything unless you're 90 and using a walker trying to run a 100meter sprint in 12sec lol. But yea, just watch some videos of drummers on youtube and stuff just type in drum solos or whatever. Another good place for drummers is drumerworld.com lotta solos and stuff there. You can start with a basic drumset playing book also if you wanna get basic beats and stuff down along with learning how to read set sheet music. |

| | | Pleased to meet you Pokey. I would suggest first and foremost that you research good grip and technique. If learnt incorrectly these are the sorts of things that will undo you later.
Good luck. |

| | | hey Pokey, check out 'rudiments' and stick 'control'. its kinda like scales for drums. kinda.
also i lived 2 hours from my drum tutor so we arranged 2 hour lessons on a fortnightly or 3 weekly thing, makes it a bit more efficient and cost effective.
keep us all posted on your progress... cheers to you |

| | | As well as finding a good stick holding grip, and playing technique along with the host of rudimental exercises that will assist get your body in shape to play the drums, it is good to also listen to music.
Don't be shy to ask another drummer for help or to show you something, probally more will than won't.
Pick out the drummers playing, what he is doing, where he fits in with the music, where fills and accents (crashes)fall in the music, the song structure, and then if it has a beat that you already know play along with it. This will help you accomplish some endurance and time keeping at your early stage.
Get out on the town and watch some other drummers in your area, you can learn plenty this way.
Never mind about your age, i started at 20 and there always will be drummers younger that are up some levels to yourself.
Practice plenty and just be yourself, play what you are good at,and practise at what what you aren't, you'll soon achieve your goals.
Hope that is some help. |

| | | lol, they're setups ar different and usually from what I've noticed can also play righty setups too :P It is weird though watching a lefty drummer. I know I've sometimes switched my set to play lefy and iono, it's decent considering my left hand is retarded. Atleast to me, but it's getting better, slowly but surely I'll be a ummm, what's it called when your both handed...ummmmmm... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
