Gretch Catalina Birch drums

I am thinking about purchasing a set of Gretch Catalina birch drums. Has anyone had any experience playing this set? Please give me your comments.

I think one or 2 people here have a gretsch setup. From peopel I've seen with a gretsch setup, all is good. I know I'd like one.

I own the set and I'm extremely happy with it. I like the tone of the drums they are well built, I like the hardware. If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them, but so far I've been very happy with the set.

Gretch Catalina birch drums

Thanks guys for your comments. I've played sonar, yamaha and pearl before. I really liked the tone of the pearls, but I also liked the punch of the yamaha for rock-n-roll playing. since I haven't played in a gig situation in years-I am not ready to put thousands of $$ into a set yet. I believe I played on a Gretch set back in the 70's once, but not enough to remember them well. I intend to play blues and some Motown R and B stuff. I have an opportunity to pick up a 6 piece set of Gretch Birch with hardware and cymbals for a great price, so I am very interested in all opinions about Gretch drums.

If you have a chance to pick up a used full set at a great price (as you say), I would go for it. Even if you decide they aren't the set for you after you've played them a while, you can probably upgrade the shells and get a decent trade in, or sell them outright for a little more.

Cool Thanks

Thank you for your comment on the Gretch purchase. I got the exact response from my guitar player friend in San Diego California. I currently own a set of Roland V Drums along with a Roland SPD-6 percussion pad. I plan to incorporate them with the Gretch setup.
This is a great forum. There wasn't anything like this when I began playing drums. There weren't any forums like this when I stopped performing in 1987.
I find this very helpful to me trying to return to actively playing. The technology in percussions and drumming has advanced, so I'm trying to catch up. I am not known as a fancy or exciting style drummer. I'm especially known for being a solid rhythm drummer.

Again Thanks
-Rick
