Which should i buy?

hi i was thinking of upgrading my drumkit and im stuck between two kits:

ones a pearl forum 8-piece and has 2 bass drums 4 toms and 1 floor tom and comes wif standard pearl hi hats and two crash cymbals with all hardware the cost is $1899

the other one was the pearl EXR 5 piece and has alchemy hi hats, crash, ride and splash and includes all the hardware and is $1800

any ideas on which one i should get?

If you desperately need the big kit, then go for the forum, but for all other reasons, get the exr. Both kits are the same wood type and construction, but the exr will have a better finish and hardware plus the cymbals are better.

Only problem is, the exr is now discontinued, so if you want to upsize it you'll have to buy new.

Good luck, let us know how you go.

Yell for help

Good call Skinslapper, something you will have to work out the pro and cons of to decide, both should be great kits.

I have always prefered a 5 piece, but I agree,if you are tempted by the big set,do it.I would keep in mind the setup time and transportation issues with the bigger kit. Also whether or not you will be purchasing cases or bags for the new kit.I do a normal amount of shows and drive a Honda Accord.Everything fits nicely w/ room for 3 people. Also I can setup and breakdown in under 10 minutes.I like all Pearls hardware except thier tom arm holders. Are Alchemy cymbals good?I have never heard one.Let us know what you decide.

9000 pedals, that would certainly full his band vehicle up.
The guy must be a catapillar

You must be talking about the DW 9000 bass drum pedals.

Which?

You do know the Pearl Forum is an entry-level kit. To me that means cheaper beginners kit. I looked and their Forum shells are made from thin poplar. Not good! If size is what you want, I would wait and find a larger kit in what you want. That is what I did the last time I was looking for drums, and it was worth the wait. I would up with a 9 piece set of 70s Doubble Bass Vintage Ludwig drums I wouldn’t take for. Now I will look for a 6 ply large doubble bass kit. I am talking to a major drum company about an endorsement for our next tour though, so my look could be short ....Danny Meazell

I would stay clear of the forums, and with them you will have to probably buy new h/ware and pedals, as well as decent cymbals, my advice would be the export, it has MUCH better cymbals, the shells are a bit better and also the hardware will last years (i have some 800 series stands from 10 years ago and they are still great.)
