Re: drum books

There are a lot out there dealing with a great deal of subjects what specifically are you looking to improve on? If you don't have it already and are looking to develop coordination at the set I would suggest Jim Chapin's "Advanced techniques for the modern drummer Vol. 1". Pretty much it's the jazz drummers Bible.

Re: drum books

well, im looking to mainly become faster, more coordinated, more creative those basics, then genre wise, to become better in rock and metal as the major ones, and also learn how to play other types to make sure i have the background to be more versatile

Check out Gary Chesters "The New Breed of Drummer" there is a lot of material in that to work on, enough to keep you busy for years. It is a little more on the advanced side It's more contemporary that the Chapin book.

I have to say the book that church drummer referred to is a great starter book. It gives you a lot of content to play and learn, and also teaches you rudimental stuff.

Re: drum books

ok, thanks, i'll try and check them out, though I was on her a while ago and some body mentioned this one book, i dont really remember what it was called, but it had alot more off-the-wall type of ideas. Instead of regular drumming, you'd do two sticks on the high hat (same time) and other stuff like that to strengthen your skill with both hands and other kinds of stuff like that, sorry i cant give a better description, but anyone know what that book is?

Re: drum books

George Lawrence Stone - Stick Control For The Snare Drummer

George Lawrence Stone - Accents and Rebounds

Ted Reed - Progressive Steps to Syncopation For The Modern Drummer

Joe Morello - Master Studies I & II

Jim Chapin - Advanced Techniques For The Modern Drummer

Marvin Dahlgren - 4 Way Coordination

Then I like working on Rick Latham Contemporary Drumset Techniques & Advanced funk studies.

A rock/Metal classic is Carmine Appice - Ultimate Realistic Rock also Bob Burgett - Progressive Double Bass Drumming could be good if you play bouble bass. Finally get Thomas lang DVD Creative Control & Creative Coordination, print the PDF books coming with the DVD and follow his practice schedule.
