rockband game

So anyone checked out the new rockband game that is out.
I know as drummers the drum stuff on there is going to intrest most of us.

I read on their website that if you can play the drums on hard then you could be a drummer in real life so I had to check it out and the first time I played I did it on hard and I got a really good score but watching other people they were having a hard time with it on easy.

But what do you all think, I think it could be great for bringing new people into the drumming comunity and help getting people into music programs.

Re: rockband game

I think all that is a load of crap. What they're saying is if you can play a game on the hardest level and beat it, you could actually become what the game is about. If you play Grand Theft Auto and beat it, you're not going to become a thug or gangster. I have no idea why a game company would say that. Probably just trying to sell their product.

Re: rockband game

No one said anything about otehr games lol. And yea, I would say if you can play through the songs on hard you can keep a beat decently and could probably hop on a set. Your set of course would look completely differnet than the average drummers set though lol. Hat to the lower left, snare mounted liek a tom on teh left of the bass and 2 toms any size mirroring the placement of the snare and hats lol. O yea, and your ride is your med./high tiom also :P

Yea, I disliked it cause it was to easy...playing through a song just fine on expert and getting bored and goofin off while I'm playing = easy =P Even the guitar was easy, not to mention the new guitar is perty cheap and you're able to twist the neck of it a nice amount =S .
IMO, if you're a drummer..don't get it...same goes if you already have GH games Only thing I liked was teh vocals...pig squeals and teradactyles...lawl.

But people who dojn't play teh drums...well you'll probably have fun with it and it'd be a challenge. But just cause you can play a song on rockband...least to me...doesn't mean you can play the drums...well you can, but yea, it isn't liek you'd be able to play the song just as good as you did playing rockband but on a real set.

Re: rockband game

if that's true, it might take a while to get used to playing a real set if all you have ever done is rockband. if you can play expert in rockband 1, then you could probably play a real set because I can play Tom Sawyer on a real drum set but not all the way through on expert.

Re: rockband game

The first time i played I could only play on medium. But it was because I was so unused to reading the music like that!! I could play all the beats fine but figuring out how to read it was the hard part for me.

Re: rockband game

I agree with that second comment(sorry I forget your name ), but it's true for guitar. I know some great guitar players that can't play rock band at all! But the drums are generally the same. You keep the hi hat, and snare, toms, bass. It's not much different.

Re: rockband game

I think rockband is a great help for starting to get into beats and tempo keeping, beesides that; it can´t make anyone become a drummer, the songs are different, you don´t get to work with the hi-hat pedal, no ghost notes, crescendos, etc.
I like to play this game, but only when I do it with my friends and going around the different instrument
I think what they were trying to say is that if you can play on that level, you should be abble to keep a basic beat.

Re: rockband game

Nah I boycotted that crap, It basicly says anyone can play songs right off the bat. I think it belittles us as musicians. People started actually saying "hey lets have band practice after work." When I was going to real practice busting my ass applying theory to my every hit. Just cause people can get a groove for rockband songs. (which as simple as hell.) I can hit five buttons on a plastic guitar and smack a fake drum set dont mean anything. Sorry for my rant but i've been pissed as this crap ever since the first guitar hero came out.

Re: rockband game

Eh, I honestly think that being able to play drums on a video game doesn't count as the same person having the ability to actually play a live set. I mean, I play guitar, bass, and drums; personally I think it's easier to play the real instrument than the game controllers. I like playing Guitar Hero when I'm bored (which happens easily), but I think that the game companies claiming that being able to play on a certain level should not be an acclaimed opinion within the actual realm of musicians; controller's mechanics and musician's mechanics are completely different things.

Re: rockband game

I learned on Guitar Hero Metallica and thought it was easy after a while, then I got real drums and can't play it anymore, it's like learning another language. 'Nuff said.
